Oct 20, 2023 2:39:00 PM / by Aminiasi Vulaono
Fiji formally deposited the instruction of accession to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva on 20 October 2023.

Fiji's envoy in Geneva, Ambassador Luke Daunivalu, formalized the Government’s commitment by handing over the Paris Convention accession document to Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO.

This decision reflects Fiji's commitment to fostering economic growth, attracting investment and protecting the valuable intellectual property assets that underlie the nation's development.

Ambassador Daunivalu highlighted during his discussion with DG Tang that "The collaboration with and support of WIPO is important as Fiji looks to benefit fully from the Paris Convention but also address the challenges that come with accession to such an international treaty."

Fiji will now be able to participate in the decision-making and policy-making processes of the Paris Union and influence the development of international intellectual property law and standards.
