James Sloan qualified as a barrister at law in England in March 1999. James practised for three years in London in the areas of Administrative Law, Environmental law, Town and Country Planning and general civil litigation and prosecution work.
James was admitted to the Fiji Bar on 25 April 2003 and in his first years of practice gained litigation experience in a range of commercial areas.
On 1 June 2005 James entered into partnership with Atu Siwatibau and provides commercial advice, particularly in the areas of risk management, energy law, telecommunications, construction law, natural resource law, employment law and media law. James is mostly involved in ongoing project-based work and has experience of arbitration and was recently heavily involved in the deregulation of the telecommunications industry in Fiji.
James’ role within the commercial team has a particular focus on how to keep our clients away from litigation and how to explore the most effective dispute resolution processes that work in the Fiji context. James also heads the firm’s pro-bono work.
